Bartie Cash from Welding Academy
I started in 1990 serving my time as a Metal Fabricator Welder / Structural Steel Worker. I spent 6 years with this host company, on the 3rd year I took up the job as Assistant Foreman and on the 6th year as Foreman.
Over the 6 years on a number of occasions I took part in the National Finals in Fabrication / Structural Steel and Welding competition.
After that I got the opportunity to become a Tutor and work with the National Training Organisation who train apprenticeships and trades in my areas of expertise.
In 2006 I set up Engineering Training Solutions (name changed to Welding Academy Ltd in 2017) ” and the focus is to work with National and International companies to upgrade the skill-set of one of their most valuable assets, their employees.
And since then I have worked with companies who are manufacturing and exporting around the world. I have also worked with maintenance personnel, let it be fitters, electricians, welders etc. training them the Art of Welding
Since 2012 we also run contracts for the National Training Organisation delivering courses within our areas of expertise.
I believe 75% of Welding is about joint preparation / set up, welding techniques and welder settings, the rest is some practice.
When you get this right welding is quite easy and enjoyable, being able to create something whether it’s in your job or as a hobby.
Don’t get me wrong as a welder there may be times you’re in tight awkward spots or very warm conditions but overall welding can be very rewarding when you achieve good results and if all the welds are done properly it can be like a piece of artwork.
As you may know poor welding can take from the whole project, can collapse / break and create extra time in rectifying welding problems and leading to more cleaning time.
Like any skill it’s important to start off using good techniques, from here you can achieve any results you want to go for, once your foundations are right.
From my experience some people who may have years of welding experience can sometimes struggle to pass tests and achieve high quality production welds.
This can be from some poor techniques / habits. Even though what they are doing may not fall apart but are lacking some structural properties and lacks the quality finish.
With a beginner they are like a blank canvas no bad habits or miss-concepts. I create their welding habits.
The skill of welding is a great life skill to have whether it’s for a job or as a hobby.
There are so many ways and techniques of welding, mine are only one way. Mine are built up over time training people within industry, picking up tips from some excellent welders over the years also.
I bring the best techniques together and these have proven to help people achieve excellent results and standards quickly.
Many thanks for your time and look forward to meeting you and your team.
